iPod Touch

I couldn’t be more excited about the iPod Touch. The iPhone without the Phone. Which is exactly what I wanted. (I barely use a cell phone as it is)

It goes without saying I’ve already ordered a 16 GB iPod Touch. Too bad I have to wait a month before it arrives. I only wish it were bigger (say, in the 160 GB range; meaning hard-drive based rather than flash).

Hopefully, it’ll be as hackable as the iPhone. I think it would be pretty neat if you could get an Ogg Vorbis/Theora decoder onto the Touch. I’m not too into the DivX or Xvid; mainly because I see no reason for anything other than H.264. Especially since I have one of Elgato’s Turbo.264 hardware encoders.

Oh well, us beggars can’t choose; we can only open our wallets and hope Apple keeps their heads down while we fire off our iPod orders. And hope their servers can take it. They appear to be struggling at the moment -- go figure.

There’s also a full-metal shuffle, a new video nano, and an updated iPod ‘Classic’ (ie. a video iPod that is 80 & 160 GB), and a price drop for the iPhone.

But let’s face it: I want the Touch. And I want it yesterday.

The whole ‘Starbucks’ thing with the iPhone/Touch is a bit interesting... if only out of curiosity. I’ve never been to a Starbucks (as I don’t drink coffee). I may have to go with my coffee-worshiping coworkers just to try out the iPod...
